Industry6 - The Queller (EP)

The Queller (EP) is proof of Industry6's ability to write strong, timeless rock n' roll tunes. Singer/lyricist Coy McNeil demonstrates once again that he is a skillful songwriter and an epic storyteller. These songs are very reminiscent of McNeil's former band, The Last Gunslinger. The songs seem to be more story-oriented. The lyrics are supported by filmic-quality music that definitely enhance the tales and the far off worlds that Industry6 want to explore. The Queller is the heavier of the four songs. There is an obvious [early years] Danzig influence here. The music and vocal melodies have a constant melodic quality throughout the song, creating an eerie atmosphere, and are mixed beautifully with an aggressive beat and attitude. The Guns Of War is the best example of McNeil's epic storytelling. There is something about the song that makes me imagine an ancient war or a Heaven/Hell battle, as opposed to the wars of the 21st century. Although the lyrics seem rather melancholy, they are set to this battlefield rock n' roll music that makes it seem uplifting or in high spirits (high morale for battle).A Tunnel opens with a beautiful acoustic melody that is accentuated by McNeil's haunting croon. The song continues down the melodic road while adding an electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums to the mix. I have heard this calm/heavy side of the band once or twice before, i.e. Ghosts Go Away. It seems this is the style that welcomes them the most and I hope they decide to explore this style of songwriting again...... which they do in Forever I! This is by far my favorite track off of the EP. The song begins again with a beautiful acoustic riff and then the full band jumps in immediately. McNeil definitely pushes himself vocal-wise and proves that he is a strong, talented singer with broad ranges.Industry6's drummer, Chris Adair, kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the entire EP. I praise him for his ability to balance calm and moderate beats with the going-all-out and all-over-the-place rock n' roll drumming!Newbie member Josh Oglesby proves that he could keep up with the band with his groovy basslines. Although the songs are not entirely bass-driven, Oglesby makes his presence known -- not by overwhelming the listener with overtly complicated bass solos, but rather by writing deep basslines that compliment the guitar and vocal melodies. The guitar team of Randy Forester and Coy McNeil (who also sings) is a force to be reckoned with! Neither of them try to outdo each other with unnecessary shredding or anything of that nature. Whether it to be lead or rhythm guitar parts, Forester and McNeil are always well-balanced and always produce great guitar riffs. I especially enjoyed the mix of electric and acoustic guitars. Again, the electric guitar does not overpower the acoustic guitar (or vice-versa). They maintain this excellent balance that allows the listener to hear the warmth of acoustic guitar blended with the crunch of the electric.I expect to see more great releases from Industry6! So far I have been impressed with each and every song they have released thus far -- and the songwriting and recording quality keep getting better (a wonderful sign)! Overall, The Queller is a collection of solid rock music (short, yet sweet and to the point) that foreshadows the greatness of their upcoming concept album, Trail Of Fears...Reviewed by Joseph Kamiya (April 2006)
