The Met isn't really normally the place I go for gigs but when I spotted The Hedrons were playing before I moved away I figured I'd go check them out. I'd already written a review about the debut single Be My Friend released in July which I loved but before the gig I was honestly expecting it to be your average gig where you stand around shouting "woo!" and simply clap when you think the song is over....well! I was in for the SHOCK of a lifetime! We waited outside and chatted to The Hedrons number one fan, for once the doors opened pretty much on time so in we went.

The first band were a local lot called The Librarians, I had heard a couple of tracks on myspace and wasn't too impressed but they were saved by their performance. Even with guitars not tuning, bass guitars not working and dropping drum sticks they still managed to pull off a pretty good show. I have no idea what the second band were called but frankly I don't care, their set was boring, they were boring and I was bored. Finally on came The Hedrons. Four gorgeous girls from Glasgow, this is what I had come to see. Unlike all the other 50 or so bands I've heard who kick off straight away with a song The Hedrons eased in to their set with a very good instrumental intro. Tippi (lead vocals/guitar) has so much energy anyone would be scared she may spontainiously combust over the first few rows, bouncing around the stage I could tell already this was going to be a gig of a lifetime. From reviewing their first single I had totally got the girls wrong, I classed them as edgy punk, actually The Hedrons are an amazing serious punk band that could kick the shit out of ALL the punk out there at the moment! After a few songs Tippi picked up her guitar and started to play, all the girls are amazing musicians and no matter what style of music you love they will give you the best night out in a long time!

When Be My Friend came on I'd already heard it a million times over when I reviewed it and got totally sucked in to the atmosphere. Jumping around and singing as loud as I could I had totally forgotten that I previously thought it'd be another usual gig. A few songs in to the set Tippi came to the barriers and stood infront of the mosh pit that had formed to the left of the stage. As I watched I thought it'd be very funny if she jumped over and joined in but instead she walked along the barrier before returning to the stage. However, she didn't let me down and soon enough I noticed she was being lifted by a couple of guys over the barrier. Diving in to the mosh pit and then dancing around the floor the whole of the audience had their eyes on her, absolutely insane but true to her fans I was totally blown away. I was tempted to dance but thought I'd probably look like an idiot and stood still. I turned to look at the rest of the girls on stage when I felt someone bump in to me from behind. As I turned around I was tangled in a microphone lead. Tippi was behind me dancing away like an absolutely loony loving every minute of her performance! Due to a crap camera phone I couldn't get a photo but even if I could she didn't seem to stand still for a second! For a while Tippi stood by me and my friend and I was extremely tempted to give her ass a good slap but thinking she'd probably hit me back I opted out. When bands go in to the crowd they normally only stay there for one chorus but Tippi stayed there until the end of the set which was not one song away but two! I was totally blown away by the performance and after about 50 bands this year The Hedrons totally owned the night and got a lot of repesct, they are definately beyond a shadow of a doubt the best band I have seen and most probably ever will! I'm off to see P!nk on the 23rd November in the girls hometown of Glasgow and I even believe this will be a performance that the superstar herself wouldn't even be able to beat!

The girls are back at The Met Lounge in January and I will DEFINATELY be going back to see them. After the gig they stood in the reception area selling merchandise so I had to go and tell them how good they were. I got talking to Soup the drummer who remembered me when I mentioned I had reviewed their debut song. I got a signed ticket for my friend up in Scotland and shook their hands to leave. Being the idiot I am I tipped their beer all over the stickers but was thankfully let off. I said goodbye to Tippi who gave me a cigarette and headed off home even though I wanted to stay all night. When I got home I played the 5 track EP which was recorded live at King Tut's over and over again never getting bored! If you live in an area they're playing and haven't seen them yet what the hell are you doing! These are 4 seriously talented, lovely and absolutely mad girls who really do love what they do and love their fans. GO SEE THEM! You'll regret it if you don't!

To summarise The Hedrons live performance in a few words all I could say would be "oh my fucking god!"
